Corporate Social Responsibility. Who benefits?

"There is one and only one social responsibility of business — to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits” This was once said by Milton Friedman.

But today more and more companies engage in CSR - corporate social responsibility - activities. They seek for their operations to benefit society, environment, locals. They undertake important missions, follow their moral principles and often try to make our world a better place. Or do they just pretend to? What is the result of their activities? Does our society really improve? Is it just an investment to gain public acceptance? Or maybe its both? What is the role of CSR in today’s world and who benefits from it?
